Mombasa Airport Transportation

By Andrew Lewis on 01 Sep 2023

As Kenya’s second-largest airport, Moi International Airport is named after former Kenya President Daniel arap Moi. The airport was built during World War II by the Engineer Corps of the South African Army and became an international airport in 1979. In 2020, it was heralded as the best airport in Africa by Airports Council International, and reportedly just under 2 million passengers pass through annually.

As Kenya’s second-largest city, Mombasa is popular for its resorts, beaches, and historical and cultural attractions, its location on the Indian Ocean coast providing aqua-hued waters and white sandy beaches. Popular picks include Diani Beach, a major water-sports destination, and Watamu Beach, known for its marine life and snorkeling. Mombasa Marine National Park and Reserve also offers prime snorkeling amid an abundance of aquatic species.

In addition to its coastal splendor, Mombasa has been influenced by other cultures over time. Fort Jesus was built by the Portuguese in the late 16th century to safeguard a port and has become a historical monument and UNESCO World Heritage site.

But before you can get to all Kenya has to offer, you need to navigate Moi International Airport. This essential guide to Mombasa airport transportation and transfers will help you find your feet upon landing and be ready to take on the city.
