How Long Does It Take to Get to Mumbai Airport?
Located in the suburb of Andheri, Mumbai Airport is approximately 17 miles from the main tourist district in Colaba at the southern end of the peninsula. Depending on the traffic, airport transfers can take anywhere from 40 to 90 minutes or more. Always allow plenty of time to get to the airport prior to departure.
Getting Between Terminals
Although the two terminals share a runway, they are set roughly 20 minutes apart from each other in different suburbs surrounding the airport. Terminal One (domestic) is in Santa Cruz, while Terminal Two (International) is in the Sahar area.
If you need to get between the two terminals, the airport offers a complimentary airport shuttle bus 24 hours a day. Travel between the two terminals takes between 10 to 20 minutes.
Getting to and From Mumbai Airport
Located in the northern suburbs of Mumbai, the airport offers several easy, safe, and convenient ways to get into the city center.
Taxis
Taxis are the best and easiest way to get from Mumbai Airport to your hotel or destination. You can arrange a prepaid taxi at both the international and domestic terminals, with rates varying depending on how far you’re going. Fares start at around ₹300 INR (US$3.65), but rides can be cheaper or more expensive depending on the length of your ride.
Instead of prepaid, you can also get a regular taxi from the taxi stand, where you’ll pay based on the meter reading.
Public Transit
Unfortunately, public transportation isn’t Mumbai Airport’s strongest suit, so taxis and rideshares are the easiest ways to get from and to the airport.
Although Mumbai does have a metro system, there isn’t a direct connection or line to the airport. While there are stations close to the airport, it’s not recommended for first-time visitors to take the metro since it’s not as easily accessible as buses or taxis.
You can catch a bus heading to nearby railway stations from Terminals One and Two with the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) public transportation service. Buses can be air-conditioned or not, with rates starting at ₹50 (US$0.65) for a full-day pass. Rates are determined by the length of the ride, so the amount will vary. You buy your ticket directly from the driver.
Hotel Transfers
Some hotels close to the airport and in the main tourist areas offer a Mumbai airport transfer via complimentary shuttle, which picks up international travelers at Terminal Two. For other hotels, you may have to prearrange and pay for a shuttle or private car pick-up.
Parking and Car Rentals
Parking is available at Terminals One and Two and divided into general and premium categories. Parking for half an hour costs ₹160 (US$2) for general parking and ₹250 ($3) for premium. Rates for an hour and a half of parking are ₹250 ($3) for general and ₹340 ($4) for premium. Long-term parking is available.
If you prefer to rent a car or have one reserved rather than rely on airport pickup, both terminals have car-rental options, including Akbar Car Rental. Search for rental car availability before you go.
