If you’re planning a trip to South Korea, you may be wondering if you need a valid visa to enter, or if you can enter visa-free. Good news: Citizens of quite a few countries qualify for visa-free travel. Read on to learn more about visa exemption, visa requirements, and more for eligible travelers entering South Korea.

Can I Travel to South Korea Without a Visa?

Yes, United States nationals can travel visa-free to South Korea for short stays of up to 90 days for tourism or business purposes.

Usually, you’d need to get a South Korea Electronic Travel Authorization (or K-ETA) in lieu of a valid visa. From April 1, 2023, to December 31, 2024, however, US nationals don’t need to get a K-ETA to enter Korea. If you need the equivalent of a multiple-entry visa, you can still apply for the K-ETA, but it’s not required.
