If you’re planning to visit India, you’ll need to have a valid visa in order to enter. And if you’re looking for a fast and easy way to get a tourist visa for India, the e-Visa is your best option.

Meaning “Electronic Indian Visa,” the e-Visa is a type of visa issued by the Government of India that foreign nationals can get online in order to enter India. Using Entriva’s portal, you apply, pay, and receive your e-Visa within a few days. Your printed e-Visa and passport must be presented to an immigration officer upon arriving in the country.

Here’s everything you need to know about the e-Visa for India travel and how to get one.

Indian e-Visa Types

Depending on the nature of your travel, there are several different e-Visas available:

  • e-Tourist Visa
  • e-Business Visa
  • e-Medical Visa

If you’re visiting India primarily for sightseeing and tourism, you’ll need to get the India Tourist e-Visa. If you’re visiting India for business matters or to attend a conference, you’ll need to get the corresponding visas. e-Medical visas and e-Medical attendant visas are for travelers visiting India to undergo medical treatment.

How long does it take to get the e-Visa?

e-Visas typically take around four business days to be processed, though they can take longer due to demand and other factors.

Can I renew or extend my e-Visa?

With the exception of the e-Medical and the e-Medical Attendant visas, e-Visas cannot be extended.

How far in advance should I get my Indian tourist e-Visa?

You should apply online at least four days ahead of your date of arrival, being mindful that visa processing only takes place on business days. We advise applying a couple extra days in advance in case processing is delayed.

Can I travel to India using a different or separate passport than the one I got my e-Visa with?

No, you must travel with the same passport you used to apply for the e-Visa. If you don’t have that passport, you’ll need to apply for a new e-Visa. However, if your e-Visa is tied to an older passport that is still valid, you can travel to India with a new passport but will need to bring the old passport and visa as well.

How long can I stay in India on my e-Visa?

You can stay in India for the duration of the e-Visa. If you’re staying in India for longer than 180 days (for example, on the e-Business Visa or longer e-Tourist visa), you’ll need to register at the Foreigner Regional Registration Office.

If my e-Visa is rejected, can I get a refund?

No, e-Visa fees and payments are non-refundable.

Where do I keep my e-Visa while traveling?

Keep your print copy of your e-Visa in a safe place with your passport. International travel document holders can help keep all your essential documents in one place.
